Grant-writing Workshop for Visual Artists--starting May 23rd

ARE YOU AN ARTIST WITH A MESSAGE BUT NO MONEY?

You’ve been tossing around the idea for a new project. Or maybe you’ve got a plan for professional development. You need outside support if you are to branch out as an artist. But still you delay.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO WRITE PROPOSALS THAT SPARKLE WITH ARTISTIC VISION?

Capturing the essence and complexity of your artistic process and message in writing can be difficult. Writing proposals can feel especially challenging. You’re not sure what the funder is asking for, not certain how to put together a project budget. The whole process seems mysterious, arcane.

Grant-Writing for Visual Artists will show you how to integrate knowledge of the artistic process, writing from the heart, and practicality to build proposals that further your professional development and artistic vision.

You will learn:

-- Questions that help you articulate and focus your artistic vision
-- Tips for reading and responding to funders’ guidelines
-- Tools for breaking proposal writing into manageable steps
-- Pointers for creating interesting and easy-to-read text
-- Tips for putting together a working project budget
-- Steps for finding and researching funders.

How it works:

You and a group of other artists attend 4 weekly two-hour sessions. Hands-on exercises help you learn grant-writing skills and work through your proposal section by section. Between sessions, you and a buddy offer one another feedback on your proposals-in-progress. You also receive individual edits from me, a veteran grant writer with degrees in creative writing and fine art.

You will leave this workshop with:

-- Confidence and clarity about how to approach proposals
-- The ability to clearly and passionately express your artistic
-- The knack for writing proposals without undue distress or delay
-- Support for your writing—and your artistic—process.
